The Financial Transparency Coalition (FTC) is pleased to invite you to a virtual event on 26th February 2021 at 13.00 UTC with simultaneous English - Spanish translation
THIS EVENT IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE AN INTERACTIVE DIALOGUE CONCERNING THE FINDINGS OF THE UN FACTI PANEL FINAL REPORT
The United Nations Financial Accountability, Transparency and Integrity (UN FACTI) Panel will release its final report on 25 February 2021. This report comes at a time when tackling illicit financial flows – including tax abuses and financial crime – are ever more important.
The global pandemic has put pressure on public spending to meet the increasing needs for healthcare and social protections – not least the cost of vaccinating entire populations. As such, the Panel’s recommendations are coming at a critical moment in history when improved international cooperation on tax and financial transparency is necessary to address the crisis and rebuild with justice and equality.
The FTC’s virtual event will kick off with a presentation from a Panel member, followed by diverse civil society reactions and an open discussion. We look forward to a lively discussion reflecting perspectives from different regions with an emphasis on human rights and gender justice. The discussion aims to cover the following:
- Do the Panel’s recommendations meet expectations? What are some expected immediate and long-term outcomes?
- How can the Panel’s findings and recommendations build regional and global standards important to addressing financial crime, while progressing tax justice
- What next? Is there scope for parallel processes? Is action at the national level to tackle financial crime and tax abuses more likely now?
Presentation by FACTI Panel Member followed by reactions from:
- Professor Attiya Waris, University of Nairobi
- Donald Deya, Pan African Lawyers Union
- Tony Salvador, Third World Network
- Veronica Serafini, Latindadd
- Journalist (TBC)
- Trade Unionist (TBC)
